EDUCATION TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD & CHANGE IT FOR THE BETTER

Picture

T E C H   f o r  T A L L I S

To help as many students as possible have access to their school work during lock down, the PTFA have worked alongside the school to set up a scheme linking up students with spare/unused devices within our school community and to also raise funds to purchase new laptops.

Here's what's been achieved so far !
  • 25+ Second hand devices have been found a new home,
  • 27 NEW laptops have been purchased
  • and a further 20+ are being ordered as we speak !!

There are 3 elements to the scheme:
Request a Device
DONATE a Device
Donate funds £'s

Register to REQUEST a Device

Would a device help your child with their remote learning?

To register your interest in the scheme please send an Email to your child's form tutor.

In the subject line write:  REQUEST a Device - your child’s name then please provide the following info.
  1. Your full name
  2. Contact number
  3. A brief description of your need for IT assistance.

Your Tutor will then liaise with the Tallis Co-ordinator and your child’s name will be added to the list.
School will then allocate devices according to their priority criteria.

* Please note that the scheme is dependent on the number of devices available at any given time and that we may not be able to assist every request.

DONATE a device

So far we have successfully distributed 24 Second hand devices to students so a HUGH thank you to everyone who has helped!

However, we are currently still accepting good working Laptops that can be easily formatted to school specification and distributed quickly.
No mobile phone devices please.

Please Email:
ptfa@thomastallis.org.uk
In the subject line write: 'DONATE a Device' and Surname.

Please provide the following info.
  1. Your full name, Yr group and contact number
  2. Please give a brief description of the Device you are donating

Once the IT Department confirm that the device is suitable, please carry out the following Important steps before donating the device.
(These steps are in line with standard recommendations when donating/recycling devices to ensure digital safeguarding and data protection for both the donor and the receiver)
  • Clear your device of all your personal files and data
  • Carry out a complete FACTORY RESET (* see advice below)
  • Clean the device with anti-bacterial wipes
  • Label it 'Tech For Tallis - FAO IT Dept.' and include your name, contact number and any info you need to pass on to IT as unfortunately you will be unable to liaise with them directly
  • Deliver the device to School Reception. - They will pass it onto IT ready for formatting and distribution to a student.

* Advice on clearing a device and performing a Factory Reset.

There are many step by step guides available on how to safely do this eg:  https://us.norton.com/internetsecurity-how-to-wipe-your-old-drive-clean.html

However, if you are unable to do this, the IT Department do this as a matter of course anyway.

Donate to our Fundraiser

Wow.. we have surpassed our target! Thank you all SO much.

However, our campaign is still ongoing, as we strive to ensure that every Tallis student has their own device suitable for today’s online learning needs.

Spending update - Since last May your kind and generous donations have enabled school to purchase 27 new laptops last year and a new order for a further 20+ is being made as we speak!

Sadly, there are still many students who don't qualify for a Department for Education device who are struggling, sharing devices with siblings and parents working from home or even trying their best on small phone screens. The funds will help the school meet their target to ensure that every child can access their learning with ease.

The funds will also replenish monies already passed on to the school to ensure that the projects already in pipeline can continue once things return to some normality.

So, please do continue to DONATE via gofundme, GIFT AID if you can and Thank You for helping ensure education is a fair and balanced provision for ALL our young people at Tallis.

Notes about the scheme

  • Thomas Tallis PTFA is co-ordinating the scheme.
  • However, The School will be responsible for collecting the names of those requesting help and the subsequent issuing of donated devices.
  • The aim of the scheme is that donated devices will become part of the School/PTFA stock of and will handed out to students on a ‘Loan and return’ basis.
  • Unfortunately we are currently unable to provide technical support or troubleshooting should there be an issue with the donated device.
  • However, troubleshooting with school logins etc can be provided as normal.
  • The PTFA will also work with school to potentially assist with the purchase of IT devices should the number of donated devices be low.

Thank you so much in anticipation of your kindness and generosity.
