POST 16 RESULTS 2020
Tallis: consistency in a very turbulent period
Student achievement at A-level continues to be outstanding, even in a year when the world has been turned upside down. Tallis continues to be in the top 10% of all Sixth Forms in Britain for the value we add to our student body’s academic achievement.
Over two hundred and fifty students were awarded A-level or BTEC grades at Thomas Tallis in 2020. 38% of A-level entries obtained A*/A grades, and 68% achieved A*-B grades. At A-level 77 students gained ABB or better, significantly up on last year. The pass rate in all our A-level subjects was 100%, up from last year's 99.6%. BTEC students also performed brilliantly. 34 of our BTEC students obtained at least one starred distinction grade, 12 BTEC students obtained D*D*D* grades, and 98% of our BTEC students obtained Merit grades or better.
190 students from Thomas Tallis are taking up university places, with over 75 of our applicants going on to Russell Group universities. Almost 150 of our students are going on to the ‘Russell Group Plus’ – that is, top-10-for-subject, highly specialist single-faculty institutions such as SOAS, and the Russell Group institutions themselves.
As always, there were some extraordinary individual performances: Beauty O (A*A*A*A*), heading to Imperial to study Maths and Computing; Jasmine R (A*A*A), taking up a place at Cambridge to read Music; Orla P (A*A*A), taking up a place at Oxford to read PPE; Al R (AAB), reading Medicine at Southampton; Sharmaarke N (AAB), reading Medicine at KCL; Teni A (BBBA*), reading Politics at Leeds, George B (A*AA), reading Physics at Bristol, Megan W (A*A*A) reading Psychology at Loughborough and Anya A (A*A*) the same at Manchester - where Quincy H (A*A*A*) is also, reading Linguistics. Eve C (A*AB) is to read English at Exeter, Hebe C (A*A*A*) is to read Liberal Arts at the same, and Khushi D (A*AA) is to read Economics at Warwick. Mio K (A*A*A*) is to read Economics at KCL, where he might meet Maddie P (A*A*A*), who is reading Politics there. Luke D (A*AA) is reading Computer Science at QMW; Charley S (A*A*AA*) is to be at Goldsmith’s studying English and Creative Writing along with a number of other Tallis students and Tabitha T (A*AA) is to Durham, for Theology. Ester S (A*A*A) is our furthest point North this year, for she is to read French and History at Edinburgh; Maeve R (ABB) is taking the ferry across to Queen’s, Belfast, so is our furthest point West; Najma S (BBC) is closest to the middle of things, as she is to read Politics and Sociology at Warwick.
This year students from Tallis are taking up university places at Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, Edinburgh, Imperial, King’s, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, QMW, Queen’s (Belfast), UCL and Warwick. Amongst many, many others.
Besides this, thirty-five or so Tallis students are taking up places at Art colleges all over Britain, including (again) most of the constituent colleges of the University of the Arts, London. Two of our art students, Jane L and May S, received a number of A* grades and offers from every art college they applied to, such was the quality of their work. Nicole O (BB) is going to Central St Martin's, and Laila H (A*AB) is heading to Camberwell College of Art, along with another five of our students who have won places at the Camberwell/Chelsea/Wimbledon consortium.
15 Tallis BTEC students from our cohort of 64 achieved at least one Distinction* grade, and all BTEC students who wanted to continue to university are going on to do so, including Mary S (D*D*D), reading Sport at East London, Samantha T (D*D*D*), reading Business Management at UWE, and Christie E. (D*D*D), who is to train as a midwife at King’s College, London.

These young people have had a uniquely difficult end to their school careers. Now that they have their results we are delighted to launch them into a world which cries out for change for the better. There is so much to learn from this experience but if our leavers are representative, the future is in good hands.
KEY STAGE 4 Results 2020
We are very proud of our key stage 4 students who collected results today. It's been such a strange year, full of speculation, disappointments and confusion, and we are really proud of our students' persistence and creativity during this crisis. Our young people of all abilities were able to achieve results deserving of their efforts and which enable them to progress to the next stage of their lives. Today is a day for celebration and we look forward to welcoming many of them back for Post 16 study.

It is wonderful to see our young people receive the results their teachers thought they deserved. This was an act of fairness and justice at the end of the most difficult year any of us can remember. We look forward to welcoming so many of you back into our wonderful Sixth Form.
The top grades are the ones usually reported at this time of year, so we include these for information:
23 students achieved 7 or more grades 7 to 9.
9 students achieved 10 or more grades 7 to 9.
7 students had all of their GCSEs awarded grades 7-9.
3 of our students achieved 8 grade 9s and another 2 achieved 7 grade 9s.
25% of all grades were awarded 7 to 9.
GCSE grades at all levels, however, recognise persistence and endeavour from all of our students. We are proud of their commitment to education and confident that it will help them continue to learn and grow. We hope that Tallis students will change the world for the better, and we look forward to seeing it!
