POST 16 RESULTS 2022
Tallis's outcomes remain strong and stable
Tallis continues to be a consistent springboard into top institutions for hundreds of south London children despite the extraordinary disruption to their learning that COVID posed. Their steady approach to the challenges represented by the return of external examinations in 2022 means that the school’s headline figures this year are close to those recorded in previous years.
Just over three hundred and sixty students were awarded A-level or BTEC grades in 2022. 30% of A-level entries obtained A*/A grades (35% last year) and 64% achieved A*-B grades (68% last year). At A-level 86 students gained the equivalent of ABB or better, up on last year. The pass rate in all our A-level subjects was 98.7%. These results reflect the consistent excellence of our outstanding post-16 provision at Tallis, year after year. BTEC students also performed brilliantly. 70% of our BTEC grades were Distinction or D*, and 29 BTEC students achieved at least one D* grade; 25 obtained DDD or better (equivalent to AAA at A-level); 6 achieved D*D*D* grades (equivalent to A*A*A* at A-level). There was a 100% pass rate.
Nearly three hundred students from Thomas Tallis are taking up university places, with over 100 of our applicants going on to Russell Group universities. Many more of our students are going on to the ‘Russell Group Plus’ – that is, top-10-for-subject, highly specialist single-faculty institutions such as SOAS, UAL, or Bath.
As always, very many students achieved extraordinary outcomes and many have taken up Russell Group places: Jenny J (A*A*A) is to read English at Cambridge and Alice G (A*A*A*) English at Oxford; Taslima K (A*A*) has a place at Cambridge to read SPS next year. Kristan L (A*A*AA) has won a Presidential Scholarship to study Mechanical Engineering at Imperial, so not only has a very coveted place but all his fees covered; Jagoda Z (A*AAB) is to read Medicine next year at Leeds, where Maddy C (A*A*A) will keep her company reading Sociology; Ambra L (A*AAA) is to read Mathematics at Bristol and Eben M (A*A*AA) is to read the same at Warwick; Evie S (A*A*A) is to study Chemistry at UCL; three of ours students will be studying at Edinburgh, with Freddie F (A*A*A) reading Philosophy, Harriet K (A*A*A) reading History, and Harkeerat (A*A*AA) reading Physics; Gwyneth F (DDM) and Muna B (BBB) are taking up Nursing places at King’s College, London, and Binta D (BCC) is to read the same at Manchester; Sophia E (D*DD) is to read Social Work at Birmingham; Yusuf A (D*DD) is to read Business Management at Queen Mary; Joshua F (ABB) is to read Biological Sciences at Exeter; Lola L (A*AA) is to read International Relations at Glasgow; Angus M (AAB) is to read Civil Engineering at Nottingham. Vanessa I (ABB) is to read Creative Writing and English Literature at UEA; Augustine C (BBC) is to read Economics at Leicester. Our students have also had great success with apprenticeship applications. For example, Malcolm S-R (D*D*D*) is taking up an Accountancy Degree Apprenticeship with KPMG.
Besides this, Thi-Uyen N (A*A*B) so impressed the interviewers at St Martin’s that she was awarded the 2022 Future FWD Scholarship which covers the fees for her entire degree in Graphic Communication Design. Tomoe D (A*A*A) is also commencing an Art Foundation course there. Besides these two, another thirty or so Tallis students are taking up places at Art and Performing Art colleges all over Britain, including (as always) most of the constituent colleges of the University of the Arts, London.
Tallis has again placed students at almost every major university in Britain. We proudly continue to offer life-changing opportunity to children from south London.

Tallis Post-16 is an exceptionally strong and stable provision. Despite the vicissitudes of the last years, our results remain both high and reliable. Our young people, whether they come up through the school or join us in year 12, are focused on their future and impressively mature as they work with highly-skilled teachers to ready themselves for success in adult life. Now they’re off to change the world for the better and I’m confident that we are in safe hands.
KEY STAGE 4 Results 2022
We are delighted with our GCSE results at Tallis this year. We hit most of our targets and made improvements on both 2019 and 2021. Young people of all aptitudes made good progress, from high-attainers to those who prefer different ways of working. Progress and attainment increased overall, as well as in both English and maths. Results in a wide range of subjects, from Computer Science to Dance, Product Design to French, Photography to Sport showed that our young people and their teachers had really tackled the challenges of past years and determined to succeed. With students sitting up to 12 GCSEs, 5 had an average grade of 9 and another 11 an average of grade 8. Many students who might otherwise have found progress more challenging exceeded their targets – some by 2 or 3 grades compared to national averages.
The key to success is attendance, which held up well at Tallis, despite everything. We love to have our young people with us.
