EDUCATION TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD & CHANGE IT FOR THE BETTER

Year 11 Support & Guidance

Welcome to the Year 11 Support and Guidance Page we hope that you will find the contents useful. We wanted to ensure that all students, parents and carers can easily access information regarding Y11 whether that be key dates (see below), revision support or key contacts. Please do let us know if you’d like to see anything added to our site.

We have informed students about the use of
Outlook Calenders. All students have access through their school Office 365 account. The calendar will allow us to enter all the key dates including exams and more importantly the Prom on their calendars. Please take a look at this PowerPoint on how your students can set up Outlook Calendars on their phones.

How to help your Year 11 student revise

Please find linked a presentation that goes through simple techniques on how to revise. We have been using this with the students for over a year. There are helpful videos and other tools to support with revision.

We do recommend they make a revision timetable, this can be made either on paper or by using: getrevising.co.uk. Here is an example plan.

Students also have access to Sparx for Maths and GCSEPod for content revision. Please find these links opposite. We will regularly update this section with what to revise and help hints and tips. Please pop back for updates.

Homework

Study Hall

All students are expected to complete two hours a night of homework and revision. If your students only has one subject for homework they should be using a revision timetable to complete 1-2 other subjects revision. This should be broken down into units for example, 30 minutes of Biology - Cells and then 30 minutes of English- Romeo and Juliet. This is where organising what they need to learn and then planning really helps. We are here to support with this. All homework is set on My Child at School.
Students can access support in the lunchtime Study Hall every day. A member of staff is always present in 1.3.16. Please encourage your child to attend if they are struggling with homework. This is a quiet space they can use for supported independent study
