EDUCATION TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD & CHANGE IT FOR THE BETTER

Languages

The Languages curriculum area is located in Block 5: CREATE.
The following languages can be studied:

French

Some students are allocated French at KS3.
It can be studied at GCSE and A-level.

Spanish

Latin

Some students are allocated Spanish at KS3.
It can be studied at GCSE and A-level.
Latin is offered as an additional subject starting in Year 8. At the beginning of the year, selected Year 7 students are invited to join the course, but students with a strong interest in Latin are also welcome to self-nominate.

In Year 10, students will be placed into either the Foundation or Higher group for their language studies. Both groups learn the same topics, but the Higher group will cover them in more depth and with more complex language.

These decisions will be made by the teacher and the Head of Languages based on each student’s progress and ability. Parents will be informed once the groups are decided.

If a student speaks a home or additional language, we encourage them to take a GCSE in that language. Please contact Ms Saadi at [email protected] or the Head of Department in September of Year 10 to find out more.
