REMOTE LEARNING
Welcome to our Remote Learning page which should provide you with information about how students are expected to learn while not being taught face-to-face in school.
Year 11, 12 & 13 should have full Teams lessons as per their usual timetable. Year 7-10 will have Teams lessons as per the remote learning timetable which can be found here We would expect students to be following their usual timetable when learning remotely. This means attending online Teams lessons where they are timetabled and using resources which have been placed on Teams for subjects in the remaining hours. Insight will continue to be used to set independent learning outside of timetabled school hours. Students are also expected to login to their tutor Team for their usual longer registration period. This is 8.40am for Year 7, 9 and 11 and 3.05pm for Year 8&10. Please see below for a guide on how to use Teams, Insight and Office365 where students can access emails. We would encourage students to check these every day. |

How can you help?
We understand that this is an anxious and unprecedented time for all, and that you will be keen to support your children at home as best you can. Your interest and input are important and will help your child to do well. Here are a few tips:
- Provide a quiet environment and necessary equipment and remove any distractions such as phones
- Have a regular learning routine (for example, try to mirror your child’s usual timetable as far as possible)
- Praise effort, rather than achievement
- Show an interest
- Set a good example
- Monitor: using Insight
The PE department has put together these guides to working out at home to help you stay fit and active during self-isolation.

Literacy and numeracy
Your child’s literacy and numeracy skills are critical to their long-term development; the importance of daily, personalised practice of reading and mathematics cannot be overstated. Recent studies indicate that when students spend 25 minutes a day reading suitably challenging books, then they will achieve optimal reading age growth. You may not be reading with your child as you did at primary school but you can still support good reading habits. Talk to your child about the books you're both reading. You could also take a look at our reading recommendations.
Virtual Poetry Competition* Well done to all of you who entered our virtual 500 words short story competition. We will be announcing the winners very soon! Why not try the 30 Day Literacy Challenge for the month of June? |

Similarly, students make most progress in maths when they practise little and often. In addition to the work they will be set by their class teacher, all students in years 7 to 11 have been issued login details allowing them to access Kerboodle, the online teaching book. This is an online textbook, packed full of practice questions, that will complement their other learning. If there is a problem with your child’s login details, please email Mr Cayless.
Years 10 and 12 have been set up on MyMaths and will be sent letters on insight with their password this week. Daily tasks following their timetable will be set for the week commencing 30 March, and they will have that day only to complete the work set (as if they were in the lesson). Years 7 – 9 will be set up over the next week, and again, students will be asked to complete tasks in line with the number of lessons they have over a fortnight. This work will start after the Easter holidays, but students will be given login details next week. MyMaths has a lesson section where, if students are struggling with homework tasks, they can access an online lesson. This will help them to complete the homework properly. Students will be required to get at least 80% on their MyMaths homework and we will be able to track which students are completing assignments to the required standard. This will enable us to administer catch up sessions on our return to school which will be run after the school day. |
GCSE Pod and the Year 11 support and guidance page
If your child is in years 9-11, they will have a login for GCSE Pod - a multi award-winning digital publisher of in-depth curriculum knowledge for 27 subjects. In addition to their usual resources, GCSE Pod has published a series of guides for parents who want to help support their children’s use of the app (see links to documents below).
Children in year 11 should continue to use the Year 11 Support & Guidance page, a one-stop-shop designed to support year 11 students in preparing for the year ahead. Although it is aimed at Year 11, the content here will also be relevant for year 10, and some year 9, students as well. |
