2020-21

We are committed to enabling practitioner research for all teaching staff, so that our collective professional capital is enhanced through the investigation and exploration of genuine questions that are centred on effective pedagogy and learning. All teaching colleagues (with the exception of NQTs and trainee teachers) will complete a Research & Development project across the year, which remains the third target within appraisal, thereby nurturing home-grown teacher-researchers who contribute to the growing body of knowledge that enables the profession to sustain itself.
This year, we would like all R&D projects to align with a specified focus as set out in the school plan. Accordingly, we would like all staff completing a Research & Development project this year to specify their preferred focus from the list below:
  • Ethical Leadership (fairness and equality)
  • Curriculum (curriculum design / powerful knowledge)
  • Teaching (Pedagogy / independent learning / remote learning / teacher workload)
  • Student achievement and progress
  • Attendance and punctuality / Pupil premium / student voice / parental engagement
  • Tackling Gender Injustice
  • More Able Learners
  • Literacy / vocabulary
  • Personal development / Tallis Character / Community
  • Practice-based research
  • Post-16
  • Behaviour for learning
  • Decolonising the curriculum / anti-racism
  • Inclusion / safeguarding / adaptive teaching
  • Electronic devices
  • Sustainability
Colleagues will have the option to submit one of the following as evidence of their R&D:
  • 1500 word prose report
  • poster (bullet points and images)
  • Practice Based Research ‘product’ and brief evaluation
N.B. NQTs may opt into this process but it is not compulsory for them. NQTs are required to complete a separate programme of reflection as part of their induction.

Deadline:

The deadline for completion of individual reports (in whatever format) this year is: FRIDAY 9th JULY 2021. All research reports will be reviewed and published on the school website.

Research Resources:

In addition to the resources previously available on the Action Research page of this site, the following collection of Teaching & Learning Research documents from 2018-19 might prove useful:

TEACHING & LEARNING RESEARCH SUMMARIES

Report Resources:

Colleagues can decide to use the following templates for creating their individual reports or negotiate a different format with either Jon Curtis-Brignell or Jon Nicholls. A guideline length for written reports is 1500 words.

Those colleagues conducting Practice Based Research should consult Jon Nicholls about a suitable format for sharing the product of their research.
Colleagues may also choose to submit their evidence in the form of a poster. The following template has been created to support the design of the poster. Please click here or on the image below to access the poster template on Google Docs with supplementary guidance about how to use it:
